Climate change is here and is already affecting the lives of everyone on Earth.
As residents of Chicago, we haven’t felt the impacts of climate change as drastically as millions of others have around the world.
This can lead us to feel a false sense of security. Nevertheless, the crisis is real, and we need to do what we can to help stop climate change and transform our society.
We acknowledge that thinking about climate change and what a single person can do can be overwhelming, stressful, confusing, angering, and scary. It can also be inspiring, give us a sense of renewed compassion for our community and the world, and a sense of possibility of what we can achieve when we work together.
We believe that every person can and must do their part to help the world reduce carbon emissions and establish new norms for a sustainable future. To this end, our mission is to provide people with well researched educational resources and information, inspiring art and music, and community organized actions that serve to give every Chicagoan a chance to take meaningful and effective steps towards creating a net-zero carbon future.
With this website and other activities, we aim to helpĀ individuals
- understand how they contribute to climate change and how climate change will effect them,
- know what they can do to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in a significant way, and
- understand what actions they can take to change social, cultural, and political dynamics so that we can reduce emissions at the state, national, and global level.
We aim to help communities
- understand their “common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities”,
- determine what actions to reduce emissions best suit their circumstances, and
- build support for adaptation and resiliency to climate change within their community.
